Fresh Start

The Fresh Start workflow is a wizard that starts a new profile (data run) by entering Machine (oven), Assembly (board) and Process (Paste) information.

Important Information

This is available when in Engineer Mode.

1)Start the software by double clicking on the program icon.
2)Connect the M.O.L.E. Profiler to the computer. Refer to the Communications Setup topic for your specific M.O.L.E. Profiler for more information.
3)Make sure the M.O.L.E. Profiler Power Pack battery is fully charged. When a M.O.L.E. Profiler is selected, the software status bar displays the current battery voltage. Refer to topic Status Bar for more information.
4)Set an Environment related for the type of experiment that is being performed. Either open an existing Environment Folder or create a new one.


If the desired Environment is not displayed on the Environment Sidebar, the user can use either the Open Environment Toolbar button or select the Open Environment Folder command from the File Menu.


5)Select the New (Start) button Start on the toolbar. The Start dialog box appears with the five workflow wizard options.


6)On the Start dialog box, click the Fresh Start command button and the workflow wizard appears.

Important Information

When navigating through the wizard, the step list on the left uses a color key to inform the user of the current step, steps that have been completed and remaining steps.







7)Select the desired instrument from the dialog box to make active. If there are none listed, click the Scan for Instruments command button to detect all available instruments.

Important Information

If the software does not detect a M.O.L.E. Profiler, using the communication cable connect it to the computer and click the Scan for Instruments command button to search again. M.O.L.E.® MAP software allows multiple instruments to be connected to a computer at one time. Selecting the Scan for Instruments command button will detect all instruments and display them in the dialog box. If no instrument is detected the software displays all of the Demonstration thermal profilers to select from.


8)Click the Next command button.
9)Select the Sensor Platform button to select what type of sensor platform is to be used for the data run.


Important Information

The Sensor Platforms are displayed in the dialog box are also dependent on which Environment is currently selected and the M.O.L.E. Profiler it is compatible with.  


10)Set instrument name and recording interval. This step is where the user can also turn a sensor channel ON or OFF, set the sensor location description and sensor type.


For additional settings such as Start and Stop Parameters, select the More command button. Refer to topic Start and Stop Recording Parameters for detailed information for each setting.


11)Click the Next command button.



When using the SuperM.O.L.E.® Gold Profiler, the sending of data erases any currently stored data.


12)Set the assembly information such as part number, board size, sensor locations and a product image. This assembly information can then be loaded and saved from/to a an  (*.XMA) file.

Load: This command buttons loads an existing assembly (*.XMA).

Save: This command button saves the current sensor locations and image to an  (*.XMA) file that is then available to be loaded for future data runs.



If a product image has been selected, clicking the Enlarge command button displays the Set Sensor Locations dialog box where the user can specify the locations of each sensor. To move sensor locations, drag the sensor markers to the approximate location where the sensors are attached.


13)When finished, click the OK command button to accept or Cancel to return without making any changes.
14)Select a machine from the machine drop down list. If your machine does not appear in the list, continue to set the machine information and select the Save As command button to save the new machine settings as an (*.XMR) file in the current Environment. Refer to topic Create new Machine for additional information.


This new machine file now appears in the machine drop down list for applying to new and existing data runs.


If the user has an existing machine (*.XMR) file that is not listed in the Machine drop down list, it can be loaded/imported by selecting the Load command button. Once loaded, this new machine file appears in the machine drop down list for applying to new and existing data runs.


15)Set the machine zone units.
16)Set the number of all machine zones (heating and cooling).
17)Set the machine temperature units.
18)Set the machine conveyor speed and units. The software uses this value to calculate the Time (X) Scale values when Distance units are displayed. This number is also used as the actual conveyor speed when prediction data lines are added. Refer to topic Prediction Tool for more information.

Important Information

To properly display a machine model on the Data Graph, a conveyor speed must be set. If you do not know what the conveyor speed is, the software allows you to estimate it based on the machine information and the data run profile. Refer to topic Estimate Conveyor Speed for more information.

19)In the machine zone matrix, set the zone names (descriptions), zone lengths, zone temperatures (top / bottom) and zone types (heating or cooling).


20)Click the Next command button.
21)Select your process specification. Select a Paste from the database or previously created Target 10 Specification. If your Paste does not appear in the database list click the New command button to create a new one. Refer to topic Create new Paste for more information.
22)Then choose the Profile Type (Ramp-Soak-Spike or Ramp-to-Spike). Ramp-Soak-Spike profile types are the only type allowed to be edited.


When the user selects a paste from the database, they can use the radio buttons below the drop down box to filter and display only the user created pastes from paste database.



Once a paste is selected the specifications are displayed on the graph. The software also allows paste specification data to be viewed in a table view by clicking the Table command button.


23)Click the Next command button
24)Verify the instrument status. This dialog box displays the health of the M.O.L.E. Profiler such as Power  Pack charge, internal temperature, thermocouple temperatures.

Important Information

If everything is OK, the dialog box displays a GREEN symbol. If there are any items that may prevent the user from collecting good data, they are highlighted and a yellow Warning symbol is displayed.





Important Information

If the I/O module is not connected to the MEGAM.O.L.E.® 20 Profiler, the software will display a warning message that the instrument is not communicating.


25)Click the Next command button.
26)Review the oven settings and click the Next command button to continue.


27)Pass the thermally protected M.O.L.E. Profiler and test product through the process. Refer to Step 2 of the Quick Start Guide topic for your M.O.L.E. Profiler for more information.

Important Information

If the M.O.L.E. Profiler already contains a data run or if the selected M.O.L.E. Profiler is wireless RF, click the Next command button to proceed to the next step.

28)Select the desired data run and then click the Finish command button to complete the wizard and read the data run from the M.O.L.E. Profiler.


Important Information

If the user has selected to use a SuperM.O.L.E.® Gold 2 or MEGAM.O.L.E.® 20 Wireless RF option, select Start real-time RF on the top of the data run list and then the Finish command button to display the RF Control dialog.



This step of the wizard allows the user to remove a selected data run from the M.O.L.E. Profiler by either selecting the Delete After Reading check box or selecting the Delete command button and removing it before downloading. This feature is not available for the SuperM.O.L.E.® Gold Thermal Profiler as it does not have the ability to store more than one data run.

29)When the data run has been downloaded, the software suggests a default file name or prompt the user to specify a new file name (*.XMG).

Important Information

If a data run (*.XMG) is saved in a different Environment Folder other than the currently selected, the software automatically activates the new Environment Folder. This process does not delete any data run files in the previously set Environment Folder and can be quickly accessed using the Recent Environment Folders on the File menu.


30)When finished, click the Save command button.
31)The software then prompts the user if they want to enter Prediction mode. Entering prediction mode enables the user to change a zone temperature values or the conveyor speed and predict the outcome of that change on the data run profile. Refer to topic Prediction for more information.

32)Click the Predict command button to enter Prediction mode or Done to complete the workflow wizard .


The information is automatically saved in the data run file (.XMG) and the experiment data can now be analyzed with the software tools.
