Selective Soldering Verification Technology Rounds Out Comprehensive Process Control Portfolio, Will Be Displayed Alongside Award-Winning Profiling and Continuous Monitoring Systems
December 6, 2021 – On the heels of a successful European debut, ECD’s SelectiveRIDER™ will be shown live for the first time in the Americas at IPC APEX EXPO, taking place January 25-27 in San Diego, CA. The new technology aligns with ECD’s platform approachand, like the company’s other verification pallets, uses the SuperM.O.L.E.® Gold 2 thermal profiler as the data collection device, and MAP software for analysis and SPC. SelectiveRIDER captures and measures multiple selective soldering equipment parameters including fountain height and diameter, fountain and fluxer coordinate accuracy, flux penetration, solder temperature, maximum preheat and Delta T at contact. Since its commercialization last year, SelectiveRIDER has emerged as an indispensable tool for confirmation of selective soldering equipment settings and assurance of process precision and repeatability.
ECD’s Electronics Division Manager, Mark Waterman, comments on the pallet’s market uptake: “Industry analysts are predicting significant growth in selective soldering over the next five years. It’s a process where success is dependent on exacting measurement and precision of flux and solder deposition; SelectiveRIDER offers independent verification of machine parameters and confirms performance to specifications. Because of its proven value, we’re seeing broad adoption from both equipment suppliers and PCB assemblers, with many standardizing on award-winning SelectiveRIDER to ensure high-yield results. ”Comments from customers and partners at the recent Productronica event confirmed SelectiveRIDER’s performance advantage:
“We’ve evaluated other selective soldering verification solutions, and SelectiveRIDER proved much better for our requirements.”
--Engineer at Top 10 EMS Firm
“Thank you for listening to the needs of our customers. With SelectiveRIDER, you really delivered!”
--ECD Representative Partner, Europe
“We have relied on an older-generation method, but are confident that SelectiveRIDER will bring our testing protocols up-to-date.”
--Application Engineer at Selective Solder Manufacturer
SelectiveRIDER rounds out a suite of ECD data collection and measurement innovations that form a scalable, complementary solution for complete soldering process quality and oversight. Others in the portfolio include the below and will be on show in booth #2435 at IPC APEX EXPO 2022:
- Standard-setting 6-channel SuperM.O.L.E. Gold 2, 20-channel MegaM.O.L.E. and 3-channel V-M.O.L.E.: Thermal profiling instruments for varying measurement demands – from standard SMT up to complex, high-value applications.
- OvenRIDER® NL 2+: Convection reflow oven verification pallet allows oven versus ‘golden board’ profiling.
- WaveRIDER® NL 2: Accurately measures wave soldering equipment’s preheat, conveyors speed, wave contact times and parallelism.
- OvenSENTINEL™: Continuous reflow monitoring software provides expansive measures for the ultimate in process visibility, traceability and quality output, now with Profile SnapShot™.
