M.O.L.E.® Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Tech Tip #1 - When using any of the M.O.L.E.®'s, be sure to have ALL thermocouple channels physically filled with either a thermocouple or a "Shorting plug."

Tech Tip #2 - The Silver Slipper thermal cover was designed in the 80's for wave solder applications. It works reasonably well in an IR oven, but if used in an oven with convection, the open ends of the Slipper lets heat in. The Silver Slipper should not be used with convection ovens.

Tech Tip #3 - SuperM.O.L.E.®for Windows version 1.0 would sometimes print a gray bar down the left side of the screen when used with some HP printers when the background color in Windows was set to something other than white.
Solution: Make sure your background color is set to white. Sometimes it appears to be white, but is not! This only applies to early versions of the Windows software.

Tech Tip #4 - Older versions of M.O.L.E.®Data Manager (MDM) may not communicate with the M.O.L.E.®when run on a newer computer that has a processor clock speed above 25 MHz.
Solution: The best solution is to upgrade to Windows software. If Windows is not on your computer, use M.O.L.E.®Data Manager Gold (MDMG) version 1.10. This will run fine on newer computers.

Tech Tips #5 - Get an error message "M.O.L.E.®not responding" when you try to communicate with your computer?
Solution: Check the following:

  • comm port selection in the software
  • data transfer cable
  • software version (see Tech Tip #4)
  • M.O.L.E.®battery voltage
Most problem calls we get are users moving from one computer to another and relate to software setup, computer speed or the cable.

Tech Tip #6 - SuperM.O.L.E.®Thinline not operating after a new battery is installed.
Solution: Unplug the battery and re-plug it in, exercising care to make sure the Black wire makes contact first. The Thinline battery has three wires - positive and negative voltage and we've found contacting the red wire first may lock up the profiler. We modified the Thinline battery connector in 1995 after discovering this.
