Frequently Asked Questionsfor M.O.L.E.®, SuperM.O.L.E.®, MEGAM.O.L.E.® 20, WaveRIDER®, OvenRIDER, Fluxometer and Data Logger Please choose from the following:
Communications Q1.1: My old DOS software will not communicate with the Super M.O.L.E. Thin Line on my new PC, why not? A: PCs with clock speeds much more than 25MHz run the old DOS software too fast to correctly communicate with the Super M.O.L.E. Thin Line and up. You will need to upgrade to SMWF 3.XX.
Q1.2: My Windows software does not communicate with any ECD products on my old/new PC. Why? I am sure there is nothing wrong with my COM port(s). A: Most of the time, if you are using a M.O.L.E., you can see if the LED is on or off. However, if you are using a DataWorker (Model 50/5000), there is no way to tell if the connection is working or not. First, we need to verify if the PC's COM port is working properly or not: One way to test is if there are two COM ports available and you have a serial mouse, try to connect your mouse to the COM port you are trying to use with the software and restart your PC. If the port is properly working, your mouse should function the same as before. If your mouse is not working, it means that particular COM port is NOT working as well. Another way is with Windows 95/98 and NT operating systems, there is a terminal program called "Hyper Terminal" located in the accessory folder of you program menu. Run "Hypertrm.exe" and set the following configuration settings: phone number: direct to COM 1, baud rate: 9600, 8 data bits, None parity, 1 stop bits and None for flow control. Connect from the M.O.L.E./DataWorker (Model 50/5000) to COM 1 port. You may need to try COM 2 or 3 if you are not sure which COM is enabled in your PC. Press enter on the keyboard. The logger or M.O.L.E. should reply with a question mark (?). This shows that your COM port and the cable is working. Please note that, for DataWorker (Model 50/5000), the unit has be turned on in order to communicate with it. Now be sure the PC software is configures to reflect the working COM port your just determined functional.
Q1.3: My Windows software does not communicate with any ECD products on my old/new PC, why not? And, I also notice that my COM port is ON all the time, why? A: Make sure no other program is using the same COM. If you have a "Palm Pilot", make sure you set its software, "Hot Sync", not to detect the COM port automatically and restart your PC. Q1.4: I sometimes get "Instrument not responding" while downloading my WaveRIDER, OvenRIDER, or SuperMOLE Gold Profiler. Why? A: This can be caused by two possible problems: 1) If you do not have a "Company Name" programmed into the MOLE profiler. This can be done by pulling down the WaveRIDER menu and selecting "Dock Printout Settings." Enter a company name and click the send. 2) If your PC has background programs running, these programs can cause the PC to miss one or more data points from the M.O.L.E. profiler while it is in the process of downloading. This loss of points causes the Super M.O.L.E. for Windows software to expect and wait for more data then the PC received and thus, after waiting a few seconds when the M.O.L.E. profiler has completed its download, will report "Instrument not responding." Turning off some unneeded background programs can usually solve this problem. If this is not possible, try using a PC that has fewer programs loaded that might be running in the background. We are currently working with this problem to determine if it can be prevented in future releases of the software. Compatibility Q2.1: Does the GM.O.L.E. V8.57 firmware work with OverRIDER and SMFW Software? A: Yes. V8.57 GM.O.L.E. firmware does not change any of the GM.O.L.E. functions. It only changes how the WaveRIDER functions.
Q2.2: Just what software is compatible with what firmware anyhow? General Q3.1: Are your products and software Y2K Compliant? A: Our products compute, display and print a two digit year. Thus the year 2000 can be entered into and read from our products as "00" simple as that. Some companies may call this Y2K "Ready" but not "Compliant" because we do not print/display the four digit number "2000." However, the year is used for reporting purposes only, and not any decision-making or calculating.
Q3.2: Why do I receive an "out of memory" message when trying to save a file to a network drive. It still allows Save As, but will not allow Save. A: Many networks are set up so that users are not allowed to Save in certain drives. Generally, the Save command is treated differently than Save As. This prevents users from altering files that are critical to network operations. To work around the issue with ECD software, save files to a local drive or speak to your network administrator about altering your access permission level.
Q3.3: Which M.O.L.E. is which? Just what M.O.L.E. do I have in my hand? A: Use the following pictures and descriptions to identify your M.O.L.E. This will allow us to quickly answer you questions about your model of M.O.L.E. M.O.L.E. (Classic): The first M.O.L.E. designed marked with "M.O.L.E. Profiler." Can only be started with a magnet and is programmed by moving jumpers inside the cover. The serial number is located on the circuit board inside the cover. The battery is a standard Lithium DL223 photo battery. This M.O.L.E. is no longer manufactured.
SuperM.O.L.E.: The first PC programmable M.O.L.E. marked with "SUPER M.O.L.E." Is started by a magnet and in some newer models by a push button switch. The serial number is scribed onto the inside shell of the RS232 connector. The battery is a custom Lithium pack with a pigtail wire connection. This M.O.L.E. is no longer manufactured.
SuperM.O.L.E. Thinline: The next generation Super M.O.L.E. marked with "SUPER M.O.L.E Thinline." Can be started by a push button or magnet. Newest models use a toggle switch instead of a push button switch. The serial number is scribed onto the inside shell of the RS232 connector. The battery is a custom Lithium pack with a pigtail wire connection. This M.O.L.E. is still in our standard product line of temperature profilers.
Super M.O.L.E. Gold: The latest model of M.O.L.E. marked with Super M.O.L.E. Gold and is gold colored. It is started with a push button on the top surface. The serial number is scribed on the end of the frame where the battery pack attaches. The battery is a rechargeable NiCd or NiMh in newest models. This M.O.L.E. is the heart of our "platform" process and product profiling system.
Q3.4: My Gold M.O.L.E. acts strange after replacing batteries. How do I reset the M.O.L.E. to default programming? A: Disconnect both batteries, Main and Clock. Press the start button for 10 seconds or more. Install the clock battery, and then the main battery. LED should flash fast for a second or two. If not, repeat the above but hold the start switch a little longer. If so, the M.O.L.E. is reset, and you should push the start and notice a one second flash rate. Press and hold the start to stop the logging. M.O.L.E. is now ready to configure via Super M.O.L.E. for Windows software. If you fail to get the above results, the M.O.L.E. may have a bad clock, or main battery, or need more serious repair work.
